Petenwell Castle Rock Area

 

The Lake Petenwell and Castle Rock Lake is located in Central Wisconsin is a very popular vacation area in both Juneau and Adams Counties with also includes the Wisconsin Dells as well.  This is centrally located for vacationers from Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Appleton and even the Twin Cities/Minneapolis. 

There’s a little bit of everything for everyone around these two big lakes!  If you are into hunting, photography, hiking you can visite Plumb Creek Timber Lands properties, Necedah Wildlife Refuge, Colburn Wildlife Area, Quincy Bluff Wetlands Natural Area and Leola Marsh Wildlife area in Adams County; always check current local rules and regulations.

Both Lakes are in  Adams & Juneau Counties which offers plenty of outdoor activities.

Juneau County Wisconsin

Juneau County, WI is located between Adams-Friendship and Tomah north of the Famous Wisconsin Dells in central part of the state along the Wisconsin River flowage system which creates both Lake Petenwell and Castle Rock Lake.  Juneau is known for farming, hilly terrain, public land, ATV trails, hunting, fishing, rock formations, public land which also has Necedah Wildlife Refuge, Buckhorn State Park, Hardwood Air-to-Ground Gunnery and Bombing Range plus a couple communities including; Necedah, New Miner, New Lisbon, Mauston and Elroy. Founded in 1857 with 19 Townships, several cities, towns and villages plus find over 60 parks including National Necedah Wildlife Refuge, Buckhorn State Park, Germantown Park and Castle Rock Park; there is also one on Adams side as well which both parks put on firework displays ever 4th of July weekend.  Come to Central WI to enjoy the wildlife, lakes, fairs, parks, hiking, ATVing Snowmobiling and other outdoor activites. Spend a day boating on one of the areas water, put up to a public area and do some shoreland fishing.  Juneau County is also home to Petenwell Rock with some AMAZING VIEWS of area around the lakes and river.  Take some time to explore the rock looking for unique photo opportuinites plus some of the wildlife that live their like birds, lizards, squirrels and more...

Lake Petenwell Adams County, WI

Lake Petenwell  along with Castle Rock Lake & Wisconsin River forms Adams western border separating Juneau County just north of Wisconsin Dells.   This area has been one of Central Wisconsin hottest tourist areas for vacations for Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Twin Cities and even Arizona, Florida even California.  The area offers great fishing, hunting, ATVing, snowmobiling, antiquing, hiking and so much more.  You can find unique rock formations including Wisconsin steepest hill called Roche-A-Cri Mound which has 303 steps to the top, giving you views of Wood, Waushara, Juneau and Adams Counties.

Rivers Creeks and Stream that Flow into Castle Rock Lake, WI.

 

Wisconsin River flows into Lake Petenwell then is regulated by Petenwell Dam where it restart the Wisconsin River briefly before it open up into Castle Rock Lake all the way until Castle Rock Lake where again turns back into the Wisconsin River.   Both Castle Rock Lake and Lake Petenwell are part of the Wisconsin River Flowage system.
